Adrian Plass in his book "The Horizontal Epistles of Andromeda Veal" presents the delightful picture of some young christians who feel called to the music ministry, setting out on their first engagement:
"News of musical venues will follow. Eventually we hope to perform at Las Vegas, Wembley Arena, the Shea Stadium, and in Red Square. Our only actual booking at present is Stanly (my assistant) playing the spoons at amateur night in the public bar of the Frog and Spittle just down the road from the prefab. We really are looking for a miracle here, as we possess only one spoon and Stanley has never done it before."
(Adrian Plass "The Horizontal Epistles of Andromeda Veal" pp99f)
The picture expresses something of the vulnerability of going beyond the comfort zone where we know we can do it, into that dangerous place where if God doesn't come through we will look pretty silly. Our ministry has always been like that. We do ministry under the stresses of little time and little resources, and yet our ministry changes the lives of those we minister to. We are well aware that for us, unlike Stanly, the miracle happens and continues to happen. God takes the small offering we make and multiplies it to his purpose.
"Stanly and Bruce are singularly lacking in vision and adaptability. Stanly in particular seeming to surrender to a spirit of moroseness after his unfortunate experience at the Frog and Spittle on amateur night. I reminded him there are worse fates than being covered with beer by a drunken audience intent on making a fool of you because you tried to play the spoons with only one spoon and no experience whatsoever, but he appeared unconvinced."

Now Single Spoon Ministries is involved in supporting and resourcing ministries to allow the advance of the kingdom of God.
